Kia Ora!. My name is Brodie and I am Mum to 2 year old Izzy. I have always enjoyed cooking and the last year and a half has bought new challenges as we try to introduce and excite Izzy about new foods. It has been a lot of fun and so I thought I would start a blog about what we are trying, what has worked for us and what hasn’t and and also maybe to give other busy parents out there some new ideas!
James (Dad) has also been a big part of this as he has quite the dab hand in the kitchen and the garden.
- Celebrating Izzy’s 2nd birthday at the Zoo.
Born and bred in New Zealand James and I were both luckily enough to have Mum’s who were (and still are!) great cooks and always put a delicious home cooked meal on the table each night and this is something that we want to pass onto our children too. Like all parents we want to give Izzy (and any future children) the best possible start to life and raise them with a healthy attitude and appreciation of food. Variety is the spice of life!
As a cook I would love to get to the stage where I can go to the store or market and actually recognise good cuts of meat and super fresh fish & veg and know exactly what to do with it. Right now I am a strict recipe cook – I am not great at experimentation or substitution!! So alot of the recipes you will see on here will be taken from one of my cookbooks (which I collect). Will let you know which at the time. I am not a ‘foodie’ or a budding chef – I just love food and home cooking!
We do not believe in preparing separate meals for children and we try to eat as a family as often as possible. If Izzy sees us eating the same dinner she is more likely to try it. Plus how are we supposed to prepare a good nutritious meal while acting as a short order cook! Don’t get me wrong we have our fair share of lazy dinners that we dish up – predominantly pasta shapes & toast but we try to keep it to no more than once a week.
I will also update on general life in our household and what we are up to.
Ok, so here we go. I am a first time blogger too so please bear with me! Please leave comments if you wish 🙂
Hi Brodie – love it so far and I am very keen to see your success with Izzy…. Sabina is increasingly fussy – though she is fed solo at 5pm while the babies are fed in their high chairs…. our dinner is therefore at 7.30pm or so once the kids are asleep. I have noticed she is better with company so I am looking forward to all of the kids being at the table, and slightly later so we can all be together!
